Here are a few ways you can banish nasty smells and keep bugs at bay:
– Rinse out packaging such as tins and jars beforehand to reduce odours 
-Try to store bins in the shade to minimise smells 
– If flies are a problem, smear some citronella oil (a natural insect repellant) around the lid 
– Lastly, don’t forget to wash your bin once a month by squirting some bleach in it, filling it halfway with water and swilling it around, and letting it sit for an hour before rinsing and letting it air dry upside-down
